We Begin
A busy seven days since we arrived in Nassau. Who knew shopping for goods would be so exhausting!! After negotiating the city in our tiny rental car, we managed to locate stores I sourced from Canada and purchase items needed for the house, then arrange shipping on the M/V Legacy. It's pretty cool to buy stuff and leave instructions at the store and hopefully they will be on Guana this Thursday morning.
We have a housemate Lisa and her two dogs Lacey and Zoe. Lisa's home was destroyed in the storm so she will live here while she negotiates through this disaster. They are good roomies and it's nice to have dogs to pet and walk with.
Guana Cay has visible signs of recovery. Homes that were destroyed have been cleared, debris removal is impressive and the island is greening up! I am blown away, no pun intended, by the resiliency of mother nature. Additionally, we have two restaurants, a small grocery store, a well stocked hardware store, fuel for generators and vehicles, regular ferry service, electricity and water!
Last night we sat looking towards Marsh Harbour and there are now pinpricks of light over there and of course the Hopetown Lighthouse shines every night.
Despite the challenges facing Abaco and the Cays, they will recover. We are so happy to be part of this community and have the opportunity to live here when we choose.
